Proximal Hedonistic Self-Interest and The End of Human Liberty

Granite Grok - Thu, 2023-12-21 20:30 +0000

You may not be the sort to read something titled “That Moment When You Realize You’re Part of God’s Project; He’s Not Part of Yours” (even if not paywalled), but perhaps that is why you should.

Whether you believe yourself religious, spiritual, or even humanist, lessons can be found everywhere we are willing to look.

If Not Now, When?

Faced as we are with cultural decline, moral depravity, and the self-indulgent internet society that dominates the lives of so many (and of which, arguably, we are a small part), truths revealed or otherwise are in short supply. And while you might not want to wade through the author’s personal journey leading up to the following pull quote, it would have been worth the effort.

Much of the modern societal upheaval regularly on display amounts to a tantrum in response to the imposition of reality itself. Trans-humanism, in all its forms, is very much a petulant rejection of the way the circumstances of our existence have been arranged. Moderns feel imposed upon by reality. Were you created as a man? Well, surgical and hormonal interventions can remedy that; no need to live with the constraints reality has imposed. Does the healthy human body operate in the direction of fertility and reproduction? That can be remedied too.

The idea that reality might intrude and dictate our understanding of ourselves, thereby constraining our actions, is something many moderns simply cannot tolerate. We are living at a time of peak “follow your heart.” The easiest thing in the world right now is to find entire communities of people who are eager to believe that self-absorption is actually a virtue. The fact that unrestrained self-absorption is indistinguishable from madness is something that we have decided to simply … forget.

Another thing we have to consider is the relationship between this new normal to liberty and human freedom. Tulsi Gabbard recently spoke about the elite’s war on God and Faith. If there is no God, there can be no God-given rights. No natural rights. No right to life, liberty, happiness, free speech, free press, no right to travel, or to defend yourself when attacked. With whom you must have fidelity (the State) and before whom there shall be no image, graven or otherwise, than the State. And maybe that sounds a lot like some religions, but it is these people who have nurtured that war on reality, seeding generations with a preference for petulant fantasies. The invention, through modern illusion, of a new way that is as old as the human experiment itself. That there are those fit to rule and those whom the State must rule as god-king, omniscient, and unmerciful—a Government whose self-absorption is unrestrained.

The trans-humanists and secular humanists, perhaps even true atheists or anarchists, can find no power greater than their current individual whims, which deprives or at least limits an understanding of the value of family and community as a tool for their own growth and liberty. That doing and giving for others strengthens them. Frees them.

Jordan Peterson explained this as only he can in a roughly 30-minute speech that you should take time or make time to watch. He examines the steps and value of self-enrichment through the series of daily personal sacrifices and how and why young people today find themselves so miserable and susceptible (I would add) to whatever sleight of hand the political class might deploy to trap them in what Peterson calls the proximal hedonistic self-interest.

That “and the next thing.” Another false prophet, empty of meaning, but something, anything, to fill the intolerable emptiness that plagues them. What some have called the godless vacuum.

The speech is profound and gratifying, and I hope you watch it more than once. Not simply to grasp another piece of the bizarre puzzle before us but to concretize your journey so far – or to help you put one foot in front of the next in each moment after to better enrich your life and that of others.

I know it’s a bit deep, but then, so is the hole in which we find ourselves, and the only way out is up.

Dave Rubin has a one-minute introduction before Peterson begins his remarks.

Biden’s Deplorable Polling

Granite Grok - Thu, 2023-12-21 19:00 +0000

It is sad to see the approval rating of our President, Joe Biden, fall to a new low of 34%. Biden is not my choice for President, but once elected, the President is the leader for all Americans. It is distressing that the man who garnered 81 million votes is doing such a poor job that his performance is approved by less than 40% of the people.

In a recent FOX poll of Democrats, 54% of those polled want a different candidate on the 2024 ticket. I want to see Donald Trump beat Joe Biden in 2024, and it will undoubtedly be an easier path to the White House with Biden being so unpopular. But for now, he is our President, and I wish he were more popular because we would all be doing better.

Over the weekend, Joe Biden was asked why he was so unpopular with voters, especially Democrat voters, and his response was the polls were wrong. That is the equivalent of the strike-out leader in baseball blaming his performance on the umpires. Biden’s approval rating has now fallen below Kamala Harris, who is polling at 35%. Both numbers are deplorable.

Biden will not accept responsibility for his performance review, and the Washington Post reports that Biden is “frustrated and upset” with the new poll numbers and has been calling out his staff, pointing his finger at them as they are to blame. The irony is we have documented how poorly his staff and Cabinet have performed and that Joe Biden chose them with concern for DEI and not competence. His goal was to have the most diverse, not the most competent, Administration. He succeeded in that mission. The approval rating indicates how Americans feel about the entire Administration, and there is but one person to take the blame, and it is Joe Biden.

It is hard to fathom the approval number going any lower, but it will because the current attention given to the President’s children’s issues will shine a new negative light on Joe. The mainstream media is now forced to cover the stories of Hunter and Ashley, and their tax woes would be laughable if not so serious. Biden has preached he wants everyone to pay their fair share of taxes, except his daughter and son. With the House moving into an Impeachment Inquiry against Joe Biden, the media can no longer hide his sins but must report on them. Because of the protection afforded the President by a sympathetic, conspiratorial press, this will be the first their followers will hear of the shortcomings of this President and his family.

The President cannot be considered a favorite to win re-election with approval numbers approaching 30%. Trump is now beating Biden in every poll, and Nikki Haley is also leading in a head-to-head matchup with the President. With the potential for two third-party candidates on the ballot that most feel will hurt Biden, he and Jill might want to start packing. They will soon be living full-time in Delaware. That will be a good thing for the rest of America.

London Breed is Falling Down, Falling Down …

Granite Grok - Thu, 2023-12-21 17:30 +0000

San Francisco Mayor London Breed has done the Dems in the Sh!tty by the Bay a solid without meaning to. She has exposed her Party for what it is. They will over-promise. They will run out of other people’s money. Things will have to be cut.

In this instance, no actual promised funding was stopped. Not one dime was ever paid out. But the pols running San Francisco into a ditch overpromised, as usual. They made a lot of noise about taking money from people who had never owned slaves and giving it to people who never were slaves. The city would take some of that to pay for shipping and handling fees to enrich a few reliable bureaucrats and pretend to have undone an injustice.

That, however, is the entire Democrat program in a nutshell. Take from people who did something and use it to buy votes from people their party incapacitated in some form or other. And then leave them hanging.

Mayor Breed’s reversal on reparations is not the first time that San Francisco’s progressive promises have been forced to yield to reality.

Last year, she increased funding for police, after first saying she would defund the police to the tune of $120 million. Earlier this year, San Francisco repealed a travel and contracting ban on conservative states, after officials revealed it was costing the city money without any impact on social policies in Republican-governed jurisdictions.

Breed’s dissolution of the office or reparations is a thumbnail sketch. Whatever it is, it either doesn’t work or it will stop working because it is unsustainable. When the budget cuts hit the balance sheet, the only thing they will protect is themselves, even as the vestigial offices they erected necessarily wither and die.

City Hall will be the last thing standing, which just makes it easier for jilted victims of Democrat lies to find everyone responsible.

The Word You Are Looking for is ‘WOMEN’

Granite Grok - Thu, 2023-12-21 16:00 +0000

Language is a  curious thing; are are the wordsmiths in progressive major media who dance around the truth to tell you lies. Take this recent lede from NBC News.  “A federal court will allow four cisgender runners to sue over Connecticut’s trans-inclusive policy, which they say deprived them of honors and opportunities.”

Just so we are clear, a cisgender runner could be either a boy, a man, a girl, or a woman. It is sex neutral. A generalization for the un-woke masses who lack the clarity of thought to identify as something other than their birth sex. Cisgender is, do I dare say it, a social construct.

Four individuals born without a penis attached to them have asked a court to consider whether allowing “women” with a penis to rob them of athletic opportunities is social justice or injustice.

In a rare full meeting of all active judges on the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan, judges found the cisgender runners have standing to sue and have described injuries that might qualify for monetary damages. The runners also seek to alter certain athletic records, alleging they were deprived of honors and opportunities at elite track-and-field events because they say “male athletes” were permitted to compete against them.

Cisgender runners. They are WOMEN! Female. Victims of a penisless female existence – except for the odd consensual act with a member” of the cisgender class who has a “member – cast aside as if they are second-class citizens by the political left and their stenographer “journalists.”

It needs to stop.

Say it, or sing it. W-O-M-A-N.

TLB Creator Publishes First Book, Runs For POTUS in 2024

The Liberty Block - Thu, 2023-12-21 14:45 +0000

Many now say the united states (the union) can't be saved. Our political differences have become so severe that they can no longer be governed with the old-fashioned American creed.

Why Not the GOOD? illuminates how we can save this creed. It expresses the rarely-voiced posture that pedigree, education, and even past job performance are irrelevant to good government service.

The Silver Lining in Colorado

Granite Grok - Thu, 2023-12-21 14:30 +0000

A court in Colorado has announced that Donald Trump can’t be on the Republican primary ballot in March because the 14th Amendment somehow prohibits that.

This is wrong on at least three levels.

First, it’s wrong because the Republican Party is a private organization.  The courts have absolutely no authority to tell it who it can or can’t nominate to run for president.

Second, it’s wrong because there was no insurrection!  (We know that there was no insurrection because there were no guns!)  So, there is no reason to invoke the 14th Amendment.

Third, even if there was an insurrection, Trump hasn’t been convicted of participating in it.  He — and, more importantly, anyone who supports his candidacy — is being punished on the basis of a mere accusation.  This turns the whole idea of due process — which is guaranteed by the 14th Amendment! — on its head.

To its credit, the Colorado GOP has said that it will ‘withdraw from the primary and convert to a pure caucus system’ if the decision is allowed to stand, which is what it should be doing anyway, rather than using the state’s resources to fund and operate its private, internal processes. So that would create a great bandwagon for parties in every state to jump on.  (I’m looking at you, NH GOP.)

But there is a silver lining here, which is that we are being presented with an opportunity to return presidential elections back to a constitutionally sound basis.

That is, suppose that the decision stands: Trump becomes the national nominee of the GOP, and the state of Colorado refuses to list him on the ballot.  Colorado is controlled by Democrats, so there is probably not much that could be done about that.

But there are a lot of states that are controlled by Republican legislatures, and the Constitution says that those legislatures can send whatever electors they want to the Electoral College.

If the normal election process has become corrupted to the extent that the party in power is using its power to deny ballot access to the strongest candidates from other parties, this is exactly what those legislatures should do:  They should vote, as a state, for the presidential candidate that is favored by the legislature.

This makes sense if you look at the plain words of the Constitution — the people choose representatives in Congress, and the states choose a president.

Sometimes, out of the muck — because of the muck, actually — something wonderful can grow.

Individual Rights and God-Given Freedoms

Granite Grok - Thu, 2023-12-21 13:00 +0000

Tulsi Gabbard isn’t great on every issue, but she was better than most Democrats on a lot of issues (and more than a few Republicans) and has since left that Klan Bake to take up many a cause on the center-right.

This grants her the opportunity to get speaking invites, which encourages her to think out and articulate positions on issues and principles. And while you should not trust any politicians as far as you can throw them – at least until they’ve proven themselves worthy in a trial by fire (like, say – COVID) – Tulsi is making a very good case for natural rights and liberty in this clip, and I wanted to share that with you.

@tulsigabbard When we recognize each other as children of God — as our founding fathers did when they formed this nation — we recognize that every one of us belongs to God and no one else. And as such, no government or no individual has any right or authority to try to take away our God-given freedoms.  #God #godgivenfreedom #fyp #freedom ♬ original sound – Tulsi Gabbard

Victims Retraumatized by New State Rules on Release of Criminally Insane

Granite Grok - Thu, 2023-12-21 11:30 +0000

A recent hearing to consider whether dangerous killer David Peterson should be released from Whiting Forensic Division of Connecticut Valley Hospital (CVH) exposes a serious flaw in a recent change of Connecticut law.

As a former Connecticut criminal defense attorney, I support legal protections for those institutionally committed for mental illness (as here). However, new rules granting unilateral rights to violent offenders to apply for release needlessly perpetuate victim trauma. This imbalance can and must be remedied promptly.

David Peterson was found not guilty by reason of insanity in 1971 and 1988 stabbing attacks. Ordered to CVH for a 15-year sentence in May 1988, Peterson left the facility on a day pass in 1989, and viciously stabbed 9-year-old Jessica Short more than 34 times in the head, neck, and face in front of her mother and young sister. His subsequent commitment to 70 years in CVH expires in 2060, but that timespan is a fiction: under a new law, CVH residents like Peterson can apply for release every six months. This puts Jessica Short’s family, and the entire community, on edge repeatedly.

The new law (Public Act 22-45) provides:
At any time after the confinement of an acquittee in a hospital for psychiatric disabilities, … the acquittee … may apply to the board for an order of temporary leave. ….An application for temporary leave under this subsection shall not be filed more frequently than once every six months from the date of the initial hearing held by the board pursuant to section 17a-583. …. If the board grants an application made under this subsection, (1) the acquittee may be permitted to leave such hospital or the custody of said commissioner temporarily, under the charge of his guardian, relatives or friends….

As an attorney who has attended countless periodic release hearings with family members of killers at CVH found “not guilty by reason of mental illness,” I can personally attest to the profound trauma and reliving of these horrible crimes that impact these victim families, including deep anxiety that these very dangerous offenders may be released into society after supposedly being committed for decades. Presumably, this statutory change (unanimously supported in the General Assembly) was prompted by recent revelations of abuse at Whiting Forensic. But throwing crime victims under the bureaucratic bus is the result.

Too many current laws disproportionately protect dangerous felons at the expense of creating more victims. A balanced solution here would be to implement a two-stage process whereby CVH would hold these hearings without notice (and stress) to the victims’ families. If it was determined that the dangerous, insane “acquittee” was to be considered for temporary release to stroll at the local parade (as Peterson did before publicly mutilating and killing young Jessica), a second hearing could be scheduled, allowing for victim and public comment. Instead, victims’ families must go through a torturous ordeal every time a patient or their representative tries to get back on the streets.

This is no light matter. Victims may travel great distances at their own expense, and feel a profound duty to others to protect them from what happened to their loved ones. Not all victims have the monetary resources to take time from work or pay for airfare and hotel, let alone hire legal counsel to speak on their behalf. Malicious offenders can simply file frivolous applications for release, deliberately tormenting their victims’ families for decades from within their confinement, with the rigid, callous assistance of the State of Connecticut.

This sentiment was expressed concisely by Jessica Short’s uncle, Andrew Reynolds, at Peterson’s recent release application hearing. Since 1989, Reynolds has been showing up to hearings like these to advocate for his family, reminding psychiatrists, judges and members of the public of the lifelong trauma they continue to endure. “I deeply did not want to come here,” he said after the recent hearing, noting that he felt angry and anxious on his drive to Middletown that morning. “Nobody wants to come to these hearings.”

But he does, he said, because he feels a responsibility to advocate for Jessica, for her mother, and for every other family who has had a loved one murdered in Connecticut. ….“It’s not just about our family, it’s about every family that has to go through this. ….People don’t understand what those families have to go through,” he added.

Just receiving a letter that Peterson is due for a hearing, Reynolds said, “creates havoc” in their family. They never know what will happen at a hearing, whether his restrictions will be lowered, or if he may even be granted access to day passes.

While paying lip service to homicide victims’ families, the Connecticut legislature has implemented laws that torment them and inflict recurring harm. This is obvious to anyone who has had any involvement with these sorts of horrible traumas. It should be more obvious to the legislature: the cure is simple enough, and would protect hundreds of innocent family members from this state-sponsored psychological duress while fully protecting the rights of the mentally unwell.

Navigating Expedia’s Review System: Boosting Your Vacation Rental Ratings

Granite Grok - Thu, 2023-12-21 10:00 +0000

The reputation of hosts’ property listings is greatly influenced by Expedia’s review system, which also has a significant impact on guests’ decisions to make or not make reservations. Accordingly, it is smart for hosts using this platform to fully understand Expedia’s review system and know how to use it.

By applying certain tactics that improve your vacation rental ratings, you can maximize performance on the platform. We will discuss advice on how to raise your vacation rental ratings in this article.

Tips for Raising the Ratings of Your Vacation Rental

These are tried-and-true methods that improve Expedia vacation rental ratings.

Avoid platform violations

A useful strategy to improve your vacation rental ratings on the platform is to steer clear of any kind of infringement. Infractions have a detrimental effect on several indicators that impact the grading of your property. These measures include, among other things, guest ratings, visitor satisfaction, trust and reputation, and guest trustworthiness. Every one of these helps optimize your property and increase the number of reviews it receives on the platform. Violations result in several unpleasant events, such as the suspension or termination of the account, financial penalties, legal ramifications, and unfavorable evaluations from guests, among other issues. Consequently, make sure you are conversant with all of the platform’s dos and don’ts and that you understand its policies, such as the Expedia cancellation policy.

Understand the Expedia review system

Understanding the Expedia review system is the first step in developing a plan that will help you increase the ratings for your vacation rentals. Reviews on Expedia are usually divided into distinct categories, each of which visitors are asked to score on a scale. The total average rating of the property is then computed by averaging each rating. The areas that make up the Expedia review categories are value for the money, cleanliness, amenities, location, service and communication, accuracy of description, and overall visitor experience. A host can more effectively devise strategies to encourage guests to leave higher ratings on these characteristics by having a thorough understanding of each facet of these review categories.

Work on important aspects of the Expedia review system

It is wise for you as a host to put these parts of the Expedia review system into practice now that you are aware of all of their features. Focusing on the aspects as a whole helps to keep them at the maximum level. By doing this, you will attract visitors who will enjoy your property and make their stay unforgettable. Furthermore, it encourages them to assign better ratings to each category in the Expedia review system. This improves your property rating score and increases the exposure of your property listing on the site in addition to encouraging repeat bookings.

Conclusion

We examined three effective strategies for increasing vacation rental ratings on Expedia. You will receive consistent positive reviews from guests if you follow this guide, which will raise your ratings on the platform.

“Youth Voters” Are Nazis

Granite Grok - Thu, 2023-12-21 02:30 +0000

A Harvard-Harris poll should be a wake-up call about the so-called “youth vote.” In a nutshell, they are a far, far greater threat to Americans who still hold traditional American values than Putin, Xi or whatever other foreign leader the grifter GOP “leadership” makes the enemy of the month. From the New York Post:

… 51% of Americans between the ages of 18 and 24 said they believed the long-term answer to the Israel-Palestinian conflict was for “Israel to be ended and given to Hamas and the Palestinians. …

A full 60% of the same demographic said Hamas’ Oct 7 terrorist attack could be “justified by the grievance of Palestinians” — a position held by just 27% of Americans overall. …

A full 67% of 18-24 year olds said they believed Jews “should be treated as oppressors” — a position which 73% of Americans disagreed with and called a “false ideology.” ….

It’s a very short walk from dehumanizing and exterminating Israelis to dehumanizing and exterminating elderly Americans and all manner of other atrocities.

Combine the “youth voters” with the millions of illegal aliens … oh! I’m sorry; I, of course, meant “migrants” … who also do not believe in traditional American values, and you have a country splitting apart at the seams. Coexistence with these people is NOT possible. It is not a case of agreeing about the ends, but disagreeing about the means to get there. These people reject the American system. And the irony, needles to say, is that they will emphatically tell you that Trump is the dictator.

Why is Hamas Holding Onto Women Hostages?

Granite Grok - Thu, 2023-12-21 01:00 +0000

In Hamas’ position of releasing some hostages but refusing to release others, one might reasonably ask why it is that many of the hostages remaining in the hands of Hamas are young women.

There have been numerous confirmed reports that Hamas terrorists raped many Jewish women as part of their campaign of terror on October 7, and there are now reports from released hostages that the hostages were, during their captivity, subject to “sexual abuse,” which is obviously a code phrase for something much more sinister: rape, repeated rapes, and gang rapes.

And you can be sure that none of the women hostages are being given access to medications, including, if they so desired, birth control medications.

We want to thank Anonymous for this Contribution – Please direct yours to steve@GraniteGrok.com.
You can review our ‘Op-Ed Guidelines‘ on the FAQ Page.

So, now with many young Jewish women held captive by Hamas for over two months, and many, if not most, of them being raped by Hamas terrorists, could it be that the strategy of Hamas is to try to impregnate as many of the women as possible before they are released, knowing that observant Jews do not condone abortions, and, in any event, why would any of those women ever want to bear a child produced by a Hamas rape.

Hamas is essentially trying to produce a generation of Hamas-fathered bastards to pollute Israeli society if their captives are ever actually released.

This is part and parcel of the Islamist blueprint for infiltration into and degradation of Western society values, including attempts at the creeping introduction of sharia law.

How would any of us feel if this was being done to our daughters, sisters, or wives?

We and the Israelis are being forced to deal with evil animals, completely lacking in civilized behavior and seeking only to destroy the West.  And the only reasonable response is to destroy them before they can destroy us.

Thanks to Colorado NH Republicans Can Sweep Every Federal Race in 2024

Granite Grok - Wed, 2023-12-20 23:30 +0000

Mr. Trump was very clear on January 6th about proceeding to the Capitol to engage in a peaceful and patriotic protest. Whether you believe what followed resulted from planted federal agents inciting the crowd or just the crowd, it hardly matters. Nothing about it was an Insurrection, but since Democrats insist, let’s play along.

For a moment.

Colorado’s highest court has declared that it can prohibit Mr. Trump’s appearance on the primary ballot for encouraging (or not preventing) the so-called Insurrection. The perception, real or imagined, of support was enough for them. No conviction, no indictment, just their feelings. Fine. I have feelings, and it felt to me like the coordinated BLM-Antifa-George Floyd “protests” were an insurrection. We had arson, assault, rape, murder – billions in property damage and some of the mostly- peaceful protesters most definitely attacked government buildings and even seized them. Took control. Set up autonomous collectives run by warlords in the surrounding neighborhoods separate from US law or political influence.

That was a lot more Insurrection than J6, and there’s no mystery about how Democrat politicians felt. Black businesses were looted and destroyed, as were more than a few black lives, but few, if any, Democrats failed to encourage and endorse protest openly. They even marched in copycat parades with shirts and signs, some with similar violence, many with less. But a solidarity of purpose led to or comforted violence everywhere it occurred.

Calls to stop the violence, what of it there was, were hardly more robust than Mr. Trump’s call to protest peacefully in advance. And if that’s a dog whistle to justify violence, then yours was a lot louder and more frequent, spanning months instead of just a few hours in the US Capitol, where Capitol police escorted the “protesters” and even offered directions to various parts of the building.

In New Hampshire, I don’t think we can find a Democrat in or out of elected office – at any level – who refused to pantomime the Black Lives Matter chants or its activities. They tolerated the silence is violence crowd, advocating compelled speech and mob justice, and many shared those videos on Twitter and Facebook. There was implicit and explicit support… in the name of extraconstitutional justice.

If a state can excise candidates for Federal office from ballots for even a fleeting association with some less than (though mostly) peaceful event, New Hampshire should remove all the Democrats for Congress from its Nov. 2024 Ballot. Nothing was fleeting about their support for Black Lives Matter or the chaos and carnage that followed its supporters. They set the country on fire.

So, get on with it then. Off the ballot! It shouldn’t even be a bother. Look at how excited those same Democrats are about write-in campaigns for that Biden fellow who should be off the ballot as well – in November, which has a nice symmetry with his absence from the New Hampshire Primary Ballot.

Rebuilding America

Granite Grok - Wed, 2023-12-20 22:00 +0000

The Epoch Times recently published an article that normally would be a human interest piece but now touches upon America’s ongoing tragedy. Jeff Minick’s ‘Boomers, Uncle Sam Wants You,’ detailed the value of what the grandparents of today can pass down to America’s youngest generation.

This is nothing new since this has been the norm throughout history.

Mr. Minick refers to the ritual of hand-me-down knowledge that every healthy nation benefits as each generation fills nature’s generational void with a sense of assured knowing, respect, appreciation, and a proud determination to continue on the same pro-American path. Not so today. While his words detailed the usual from past times, what is being passed down today is currently unraveling on our city streets.

A more innocent and beneficial useful for this generational sharing was when mom would open up her sacred and personalized cookbook to her daughter(s). By the way, that’s where that yummy stuffing came from on Thanksgiving Day! This helpful learning was long ago when home cooking was an acquired and proud skill. Today’s landscape usually lacks such abilities since mom is now career minded with her children eating much of their food “on the run” or at school. Talk about a dysfunctional family!

Also, the family unit of today’s progressive environment has become fragmented from this “no-fault” divorce ease. That old-time family unity, having a sense of closeness and togetherness, has disappeared, even within today’s more stable two-parent families. This is evident when a family enters and is seated in a public eatery and then commences to do their cell phone texting while ignoring the service or the menu.

The previous mention of school food eliminated mom from packing the proverbial ‘brown bag” lunch of a peanut butter/jelly sandwich and an apple. Also, “driving ed” classes have long ago removed dad from teaching junior how to drive.

In a previous writing, I mentioned that a family stashed a new two-wheeler at my house in preparation for Christmas morn. Later that day, I asked how their son liked his new bike and was told he never rode it since they also gave him a “Wii” as a gift, and he hasn’t put it down.

Clearly, not only times but also interests and enjoyments have changed during adolescence. This last example is detrimental in that it detracts from the normal energies being released by the physical energy of riding a bike, not to mention being outdoors, enjoying friends, and building friendships.

Along with these changing times of attitudes and family splintering is our fading religious devotion. This is noticeable on Sunday mornings when eateries are full, and yard work or car washing has become so every day. Needless to say, the odds for a family dinner at the dining room table, without cell phones or TV noise, is as unbelievable as even those dining room tables! Naturally, the dinner-time prayer is no longer.

All these instances point to what is so desperately needed: a return to God and a wholesome and loving family, which is the basis for rebuilding a harmonious and respectful society. And this is partially aided by the guidance a family receives from their grandparent’s wisdom, of which a central element of their words is their devotion to what made America great.

Likely, the transformation to this current state of anarchy began when the rudiments of learning were passed from family teachings onto those little one-room schoolhouses, which were then of beneficial value since they remained rooted within the local community. However, as “progress” stole into the classrooms, a gradual shift began to what it is today, which is to say, “What isn’t it today?”

Finally and most ironically, Minick’s reference to what is missing and desperately in need of returning serves us well by offering a comparative or wake-up view of what we have so cavalierly discarded throughout the years of this progressive degradation. We truly have become our own worst enemies, of which this could be our final wake-up call if it’s not too late!

Another Militant Pro-Vaxx Journalist Dies … at the Age of 33

Granite Grok - Wed, 2023-12-20 20:30 +0000

Ian Vandaelle, a reporter and vaccine extremist, was not shy about the embrace of tyrannical mandates and passports. He had a net-zero tolerance for anyone in any occupation who did not line up for the emergency use pharmaceutical. Vandaelle has died at the age of 33, fully vaccinated, we can assume.

“I, for one, advocate we bring the carrot and the stick,” Mr. Vandaelle stated in a social media post in July 2021. “Incentivize getting the vaccine however we like – ice cream, lotteries, literally whatever, I don’t care – and require vaccination to do non-essential things. Wanna go to a bar to watch the game? Passport.”

Vandaelle is the latest in a rising curve that the experts and media can’t seem to flatten. Loudmouth public health fascists dropping dead. Narrow-minded fear-mongers with no room for bodily choice (though, I bet he supported abortion), or truly informed consent. Details that might have resulted in Mr. Vanadelle being with us today instead of deceased.

In Plain Sight

I was in CVS the other day to pick something up. As a beneficiary of the fiat money funneled to anyone who would promote the mRNA thing, CVS has – since the alleged pandemic – had a flu shot spot. There’s a chair and a screen. You get your injection, and you wait fifteen minutes. Something that was never a requirement prior to the introduction of mRNA to the mass public. (Related: 48 yo Pro-Vaxx Soccer Journalist Dies Suddenly During World Cup)

I’ve had this thought before, but as I walked back past the spot where an older man was waiting, many months after the pause in the hysteria, I was reminded of why. They made him wait because he could drop dead. That wasn’t anything they told him. The approved narrative was to ensure he didn’t have any immediate complications or side effects. There’s a long list of these, several of them unpleasant, requiring swift medical attention, one of which is death.

We received numerous accounts, reporting on at least a few, of elderly patients in care homes who died shortly after receiving their COVID shots. They were some of the first to receive them. Their death certificate probably says they died from covid when it should have read COVID ‘vaccine.’ But if you tell people the fast-tracked “cure” that turned out to make you more susceptible to infection and transmission might kill you in the next few minutes, what happens to the uptake? Who volunteers to get The Jab and sit in the chair behind the blond waiting to see if they did.

And on the odd chance the thing actually does anything they say, by which I mean, the things they said out loud, not the long list of things it might do (like kill you) that they kept quiet? Things to which the Ian Vandaelle’s of the world objected when reported. You were an anti-vaxxer peddling misinformation or disinformation. I’m sure Ian was quick to regurgitate FDA claims that ivermectin was horse dewormer while ignoring how children were at little or no risk of infection or spread. He likely advocated for them getting Jabbed as well. (Related: Vaccinated” Pro-Vax Mandate Washington Post Editor Dies Suddenly…from a Heart Attack.)

I’m not happy he’s dead. I value all life, even that of medical fascists, because – and we’ve seen it – they can be convinced they were wrong, and these often become the best advocates for needed change in how such things are handled in the future. There’s nothing quite as powerful as pro-liberty health freedom boosters who got the boosters and have since seen the light.

Ian won’t be one of those, not that he would ever have been. And that’s the problem with death. To paraphrase William Munny in the movie Unforgiven, it takes away everything a man ever was or will ever be. Ian Vandaelle may not have died as he lived, but given how many souls that Reaper vaccine has claimed, it seems likely his decision to embrace the so-called cure for COVID is what killed him.

What’s Up with Colorado Judges in Trump Ballot Case?

Granite Grok - Wed, 2023-12-20 19:00 +0000

I can’t stand Donald Trump. But keeping him off the ballot in Colorado is outrageous. It is so un-American. Four months ago, I wrote to our dear NH Sec’y of State to make sure NH was not going to deballotize Trump. Here is that letter, dated August 28, 2023 (it has a bearing on the foolishness in Colorado and elswhere).

We want to thank Dr. Mary Maxwell for this Contribution – Please direct yours to Steve@GraniteGrok.com.
You can review our ‘Op-Ed Guidelines‘ on the FAQ Page.

Dear Secretary of State Scanlan,

Best greetings!

It’s not true, is it, that you are going to deprive Trump of access to the ballot in the NH primary? I heard of it only today at GraniteGrok.com, but I may have misheard. It would be so totally NOT NEW HAMPSHIRE to play such a game. The rest of the country respects us. Is someone trying to demolish even that small national joy?

The US Constitution’s Fourteenth Amendment, sec 3, holds that no person can be elected who had taken an oath of office to support the Constitution and subsequently “engaged in insurrection or rebellion.” No one has proven anything about Trump engaging in insurrection or rebellion.

This month, on August 1, 2023, Trump was charged with four crimes in the US District Court of the District of Columbia, Case 1:23-cr-00257-TSC:

1. Conspiracy to defraud the US (by spreading false stories about the election).
2. Conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding (by planning to obstruct Congress on Jan 6).
3. Obstruction of and attempt to instruct an official proceeding.
4. Conspiracy against people’s right to vote (by intimidating them).

I think you’d agree that none of those charges could win a conviction. Most likely, the January 6 “riot” was a psy-op to lower the image of our nation and also to pave Tyranny’s way.

Two official means of helping us find the facts were squelched.

First was the Select Committee of the House to investigate Jan 6, with Adam Schiff and others telling such embarrassing lies. Second was the Republican-led Senate’s declining to try Trump’s second impeachment. Even Rand Paul insisted on voting to “acquit summarily,” yet Trump himself should have wanted to have the insurrection story put on the table!

A third way that Americans were deprived of learning the facts was the wrongful imprisonment of many of the protestors. They were kept in jail in solitary, in conditions that would conduce to their opting to plead guilty in exchange for release. This is an obstruction of justice for which the FBI and DoJ attorneys should be arrested.

Come to think of it, a fourth way that we all got screwed, pardon my French, was by Trump’s declining to tell us what he intended his supporters to do to make the Certification process get derailed on January 6, 2021. He did say that Pence should help, but there was no way for that to happen. Per 3 USC 15.2: “The President of the Senate [Vice President Pence] shall have no power to solely determine, accept, reject, or otherwise adjudicate or resolve disputes over the proper certificate of ascertainment of appointment of electors, the validity of electors, or the votes of electors.”

Many Americans knew before Jan 6 that finagling had occurred in the 2020 election, possibly in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Georgia, and Arizona. (Actually, everywhere, if we can believe Jim Collier’s 1992 fabulous book Votescam — and I do.) Citizens could have fought it out with their state government. But as January 6 drew nigh, it was too late for people to act at the state level. Rather, the citizens’ target had to be Congress.

The method for Congress to intervene is cut and dried. Any House of Reps member can stand up and complain when dodgy ballots are being opened. Then, if at least one senator is willing to co-sign that complaint, it must go to each chamber for a vote, preceded by a maximum 2-hour debate. A majority of both chambers will result in a given state’s ballots being set aside.

Just as Arizona was being counted, a Rep complained. Bang! In came the “rioters.” We all recall the disruption, the breaking of glass, the guy wearing the horn hat, etc. The members escaped to their office rooms, and after 8 pm, they reassembled and continued the counting job till around 2 am. Debates actually did ensue for three states; I have read them at Congress.gov. None got a majority vote to de-certify. Conceivably, without the ‘riot,’ Trump’s desire for decertification may have prevailed. So Trump acted self-destructively if he encouraged a riot!

Mr. Scanlan, if you are indeed thinking of leaving Trump’s name off the 2024 primary ballot, maybe it is because Trump is also accused in Georgia of having pressured your counterpart, Sec’y of State Brad Raffensperger, to “find” 11,000 votes. I say that this was not a crime. If a president OR ANYONE has seen fraud in an election, they surely can ask the proper officials to dig out the correct voting numbers. When I heard that Fulton County, GA, was preparing a case, I swiftly wrote to the foreman of that Grand Jury to point out the facts as above.

I am no Trump supporter. I think he did a tragic job as president. I sued him twice for vaccinations and for threatening to nuke North Korea. It’s a pity that folks will feel loyal to Trump because he is victimized. It would be better for citizens to be loyal to the parchment.

Please do the right thing, Mr. Secretary, I’m sure you will. Excuse me for even worrying about the rumor of “no access.”

Thank you very much for listening!

The Four State Supreme Court Judges Who Voted to Keep Trump off the Primary Ballot Need to be Impeached

Granite Grok - Wed, 2023-12-20 16:00 +0000

The US Supreme Court has been asked to weigh in on a Colorado State Supreme Court ruling. The Colorado Court’s 4-3 decision prevents Donald Trump from appearing on the state’s upcoming primary ballot based on a very unjudicial assumption.

Despite having never been convicted in any court in any state across the increasingly fruitless Plain, Colorado’s highest court finds him guilty of insurrection. At least, it seems like they must have without there ever having been a trial verdict. How else do you punish him on these grounds unless he has been found guilty? That suggests to me that someone must impeach or otherwise remove the four state supreme court judges who ruled based on the absence of crime or conviction.

You can hate Donald Trump and still agree with me.

There’s just no room for that thinking in any court, let alone a State Supreme one, to which we add, as Hans von Spakofky notes at The Daily Signal, election interference. It’s another unforgivable crime (unless it’s done to Republicans). He also reminds us that no other court confronted with ideological lawsuits to stop Trump, citing Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, has passed judicial muster, nor should it.

First, Section 3 of the 14 Amendment applies only to individuals who were previously a ‘member of Congress,’ an ‘officer of the United States,’ or a state official. Individuals who are elected—such as the president and vice president—are not officers within the meaning of Section 3.

Second, no federal court has convicted Trump of engaging in ‘insurrection or rebellion.’ In fact, the Senate acquitted Trump of that charge in his second impeachment.

Third, some scholars assert Section 3 doesn’t even exist anymore as a constitutional matter after the Amnesty Acts of 1872 and 1898—a matter completely ignored by the court today.

Fourth, prior court rulings have held that Section 3 is not self-executing and Congress has never passed any federal law providing for enforcement, meaning that courts such as the Colorado Supreme Court have no legal authority to enforce Section 3.

That’s all well and good and fine and dandy, but the second point is the only one that matters. Whether it is actionable or not, relevant or not, the defendant has not been convicted. The Colorado State Supreme Court – all Democrat appointees, as if that should matter – has overstepped and may have derailed every other effort to keep the Trump Train from steamrolling itself into a Republican nomination.

“We conclude that because President Trump is disqualified from holding the office of President under Section Three, it would be a wrongful act under the Election Code for the Secretary to list President Trump as a candidate on the presidential primary ballot,” reads the majority opinion.

“Therefore, the Secretary may not list President Trump’s name on the 2024 presidential primary ballot, nor may she count any write-in votes cast for him,” the order added, as Colorado state law does not permit write-in votes to be counted for ineligible candidates.

The ruling reverses a lower court ruling that President Trump was eligible to appear on the ballot because while he did “engage” in an “insurrection” on Jan. 6, 2021, Section 3 of the 14th Amendment does not apply to presidents. The Colorado Supreme Court was unpersuaded by both the lower court and President Trump’s arguments that Section 3 did not apply to presidents.

“Section Three encompasses the office of the Presidency and someone who has taken an oath as President. On this point, the district court committed reversible error,” the order reads.

Hans von Spakovsky insists Sec. 3 doesn’t apply to presidents. The Lower Colorado court agreed. The Colorado Supremes barely disagreed but put it in writing, so now the US Supreme Court may need to answer the question. I don’t see how it wouldn’t apply, and they may decide that it does, but it hardly matters. The Colorado State Supreme Court has denied Mr. Trump ballot access to which he qualifies under state law (this is election interference) absent his Fith Amendment right to due process and Seventh Amendment right to trial by jury (at least I think that may apply), acting with conviction in the absence of a conviction.

They have assigned guilt to justify a decision where none yet exists. This means that plaintiffs have no standing. There is no crime to measure against A14-3; the state, therefore, cannot disqualify the candidate. And these four judges who voted to punish him for that should be removed from office.

Making Informed Eating Choices in a World of Toxic Options.

Granite Grok - Wed, 2023-12-20 14:30 +0000

Christians find liberation in Christ’s teachings, emancipating them from the stringent, legalistic dietary codes of Judaism. Jesus implored followers not to fret over food and drink (Matthew 6:25; Luke 12:22), emphasizing that true defilement does not stem from what enters the body (Mark 7:15). However, contemporary Christians navigate a distinct era, one marked by a cautionary awareness of a new age of potentially harmful food that challenges the sufficiency of God’s provision.

In the Genesis narrative, God explicitly outlines the toil required for earning sustenance, reprimanding Adam for partaking in forbidden fruit:

“Cursed is the ground because of you; in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life; thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you; and you shall eat the plants of the field. By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground,” Genesis 3:17-19, ESV.

Isaiah warns against the worship of idols crafted by human hands (Isaiah 2:8), while Revelation foretells the Black Horse of Famine (Revelation 6:5-6). Modern industrial agriculture presents a perilous pact of dependency and concealed toxins, prompting more Christians to recognize the spiritual dimensions of this nutritional challenge.

Unlike the pastoral world of Christ, deeply tied to farming and the soil, contemporary Americans often distance themselves from this connection. The result is a potentially perilous dependency, contrary to godly principles.

Instead of tilling the soil through thorns and sweat, modern society often opts for drive-through food services or fills grocery carts in national chain stores. Cultivating food awareness becomes a means of breaking free from dependency and promoting overall health. God’s provision of wholesome food serves as an antidote to the various health challenges afflicting this generation, including obesity, cancer, sterility, mental health issues, and the broader impacts of a food system gone astray.

“Forever chemicals” such as PFAS, which do not break down and accumulate in the human body, contaminate food and drinking water. Packaging introduces additional chemicals like BPA, phthalates, and endocrine disruptors that mimic estrogen, posing reproductive and gender function risks. Vulnerability to these health hazards is heightened in children and pregnant women.

Research indicates that “fast” food often ranks as the most toxic and least healthy option. While not everyone can afford organic alternatives, adhering to general guidelines becomes crucial. The Environmental Working Group’s annual “Dirty Dozen” lists produce most likely to be tainted with pesticides, recommending organic choices when possible. Conversely, the “Clean Fifteen” comprises fruits and vegetables with natural peels or shells, offering relatively safer options.

Navigating the confusing landscape of healthy choices requires discernment, especially given the deceptive practices of the food industry. Basic guidelines provide a starting point for informed Christian food choices, including avoiding high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated fats, and other obviously unhealthy pseudo-food products. Achieving complete purity in dietary habits may be challenging in today’s world, much like the pursuit of absolute sinlessness, but minimizing exposure to toxins aligns with a healthier lifestyle. God desires healthy temples for His followers; therefore, moderation in all things remains a biblical principle (1 Corinthians 6:12; 9:25).

NYTimes Tried To Blame Men For One Woman’s Sad Life. But It Doesn’t Add Up

Granite Grok - Wed, 2023-12-20 11:30 +0000

There is a stark difference between the way the Left and Right talk about love, marriage, and children. While neither side is going to agree the other is correct, progressives are so blinded by their hatred for the right they seem incapable of understanding who we are talking to when we preach about reclaiming femininity and motherly virtues.

This was the issue with the guest essay published in The New York Times’ opinion section in November, “Why Aren’t More People Getting Married? Ask Women What Dating Is Like.” It was a predictable read. The author, Anna Louie Sussman, gave the typical progressive argument that male behavior is responsible for the rise in singleness while targeting the Right’s messaging to young women about marriage as joyless.

The essay focused on single mother Sarah Camino, claiming she “checks all the boxes of the demographic that has been targeted for advice in recent months by an array of columnists and authors who have argued for the promotion and prioritizing of marriage.”

But what Sussman fails miserably to understand is although Camino’s story deserves sympathy, she is not the demographic the Right is trying to reach with their argument. A 37-year-old beautician without a college degree is not the target audience conservatives are focused on when debating against the Girlboss lifestyle. Conservatives want to stop the next generation of women from becoming corporate robots devoid of fulfillment — this means young women looking at college or just embarking on their working careers. (ROOKE: ‘Conservative Woman’s Guide To College’ Offers Up The Right’s Answer To Destructive Feminism)

While Camino is a tragic reminder of what happens when you live life as if there aren’t consequences for your actions, Conservatives are hoping to reach women trading motherhood for a self-absorbed existence.

Sussman claimed Conservatives will push marriage on women “sometimes for the sake of overall happiness but more often for the sake of children’s well-being.” This is another example of how the Left can’t fathom why people would view protecting vulnerable children as an admirable endeavor, especially in the event it causes the parents personal suffering. Progressives find it shocking the Right would push for marriages to stay together because our modern world enables selfish behavior that hurts children for the sake of saving the adults’ pain.

She sees this as the Right “harping on people to marry from high up in the ivory tower,” claiming the Conservative argument for marriage “fails to engage with the reality on the ground that heterosexual women from many walks of life confront: the state of men today.” (ROOKE: There’s A Good Reason Trad Wives Can’t Stop Telling You About Their Sex Lives)

Camino had apparently been dating a man for over two years before he cut and ran. During that time, are we to believe there were no signs he lacked integrity? The entire time she was consensually engaging in sexual activities with her boyfriend, she never thought to herself: “What happens if I get pregnant? How will he respond? Would he be a good father?”

The Right sees just as clearly as the Left that Camino’s child deserves to have both parents in the home, providing love and protection. Her deadbeat boyfriend is a loser for leaving her and their child. He’s the worst kind of man. The problem begins when Sussman makes the gigantic leap that Camino’s experience is indicative of the behavior of all men.

Her evidence came from a study done by Daniel Cox, a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, that “found that nearly half of college-educated women said they were single because they had trouble finding someone who meets their expectations, versus one-third of men.” She adds, “It seems that by the time men begin dating, they are relatively ‘limited in their ability and willingness to be fully emotionally present and available,’” as the pinnacle of proof that men are to blame for why women aren’t married.

The conclusion ignores important findings in the same study: “Thirty-six percent of single adults say that having more important priorities is a major reason they are not currently dating. Single women are much more likely than single men to say this is a major reason they are not dating (45 percent vs. 29 percent, respectively).”

The reality is there are more men than women looking for relationships, and Sussman inadvertently showcases why Progressive women stay single. Conservatives are asked to take the experiences of single women seriously. Still, when Sussman’s example, Camino, is asked what kind of man she is looking for, she timidly proclaims her dream is to find a “feminist.”

Good men and Feminism are not compatible.

The Left will scoff at the idea men hate Feminism, but they do. The emasculation that comes with denying their inherent goodness all the time in order to uphold the female empowerment storyline is making them recoil away from society. They want to protect and lead but are taught from childhood their instincts are toxic.

Men don’t want to marry a single mother who doesn’t view masculinity with respect. He is expected to love and care for her and her child with his life for the rest of his days. What does he get in return? When Camino claims to want a male feminist, good men will understand that as a signal to stay away from her.
